Stanbic Bank donates 100 computers to support government youth skilling centers
Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated 100 computers to the Youth and Children Affairs Ministry to help equip government run national skilling centres around the country. The computers were handed over to the Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke, by the Stanbic Bank Chief Executive, Anne Juuko in a ceremony held at the Media Center, in Kampala. The 100 computers will be used to support the ministry’s work in at least 12 Youth and Children Skilling Centers located in Kabale, Mbale, Napak, Moroto, Gulu, Arua, Masindi, Kabarole, Masindi, Kasese, Mpigi and Naguru.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Stanbic Bank Uganda Chief Executive Anne Juuko said, “during our National Schools Championship a few weeks ago, Minister Mateke told us about the Ministry’s efforts to establish and equip youth skilling centers; these 100 computers is our contribution to support that initiative.” Juuko added that Stanbic Bank devotes a significant portion of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) budget towards supporting activities that promote youth development. “The bank runs the annual National Schools Championship (NSC) which is the country’s largest youth entrepreneurship promotion programme; over the last six years, the NSC programme has produced over 200 youth-led businesses, creating nearly 1000 direct jobs for youth and currently on track to scale, and potentially generate more employment,” she said.
Last year, Stanbic Bank partnered with UNDP to implement the Youth4Business Entrepreneurial Facility to support youth-led businesses to recover from the impact of Covid-19. The Bank is currently developing its Youth Engagement Strategy which will be unveiled in 2022. Speaking shortly after receiving the computers, Minister Mateke thanked Stanbic Bank Uganda for supporting the work of the Ministry towards skilling youth with the skills needed to prosper economically noting that the prosperity of the youth is everyone’s responsibility.
